Video Gaming

I don't really play video games. I never had them growing up (as my mom says, "we had two girls! Why would they want video games?!")

Anyway, Pete has been on a video game kick lately, and so I tried playing this one game called BUST A MOVE and it's Japanese and there's an obnoxious talking dinosaur that goes "YAY! RAWR!" constantly and then there's high-pitched Japanese girls making high-pitched sounds that I don't know what it means...oh well.

Pete showed me this comic, from Kate Beaton. We've been reading her comics a lot lately, because they're nerdy and about history and then other random things. So I'm sitting in front of the TV, cursing the tiny red ball that didn't line up with the other tiny red balls, and Pete pauses the game and shows me this:

Yup. Pretty much how I feel about video gaming in general.

Exciting purchase!

I usually silently delete the J.Crew emails I get in my inbox, because everything is so expensive and it makes me sad that I cannot afford it.

But TODAY...I found this:

Eeeee!

Kid Alphabet Posters

In my childrens' rooms in my future house (which is going to awesome, BTW), there are going to be old hanging maps but, even better, I want to have a couple of wonderful Animal Alphabet Posters. I really enjoy looking at them. I was perusing swissmiss today and there were TONS of posters! I had seen two of them before, but the others were a complete surprise and I luuuurve them!

School Maps!!!

I love Freecycle. Through it, I got an email from a woman who has about 50 old school maps...and I immediately sent her one back saying I want like five.

She said she would hang on to a few of them until I get back into town! I am so excited. I want to do things like THIS in my house:

In other news, I am going to pick up two vintage typewriters via Craigslist, along with a couple of file cabinets that I want to wallpaper with pretties and I'm still on the look-out for a sweet standing coat-rack. My mom recently told me that I am going to have the "most eclectic, weirdest, quirkiest house". She has NO idea ;)

Abandon

While biking through the downtown streets of Cairo, I stopped to take a ton of pictures. Cairo has intrigued me since Pete and I started dating... it's so weird. Mark Twain (I think) called Cairo the center of activities (okay, he didn't say that, but he enjoyed it at one point and wrote about it and stuff). It makes me sad. There's this old pretty movie theatre that is shut down...well, everything is shut down. Oh well. I love taking pictures of abandoned buildings - and exploring inside of them. The smell of mildew and mold completely overtakes you when you ride down Commercial Avenue and 4th Street here...

New haircut

I did it. I am really proud of myself. PLUS, I even recreated the cute bob that Amanda, the woman at Salon St. Louis, did with multiple products.

I am NOT the kind of girl who can usually recreate things in my hair. It's thick and frizzy and USUALLY unmanageable, but it worked! I was so happy.

Double Dating

This is a short conversation I heard between two of Pete's adorable nieces, Sophia and Maci:

Maci: Sophie, we're double-dating!
Soph: Double-dating? What's that?
Maci: It means that we are swinging at the same time, in the same path! See?

Adorable.

I've been living like a kid the past few days - blowing bubbles, playing with sidewalk chalk, kissing boo-boos, eating cut-up hotdogs with ketchup, watching Max & Ruby and Rugrats, and coloring. It's been a blast.
