And now for something completely different...

I am so sick of people who are unprofessional. I feel like that's been the norm in my life lately. People that are registers at stores, people I talk to at doctor's offices, job people...and today pretty much put me over the edge.

So me, Sarah, and Marcy had found an apartment that we REALLY liked via craigslist (this probably accounts for a small portion of the unprofessionalism). We went to check it out this past Friday, and I liked it but Sarah didn't and my parents finally broke it to me that they didn't really want me living off campus, which is TOTALLY fine, but still. So I called the woman back (Nicole) who had shown us the space and who owns the apartment.

"Hi, we're not going to be able to take the apartment at this time; it just doesn't work out for all of us right now." [Pause] "I really appreciate all the work you've done and research and showing us the space," I said after we chit-chatted for about 4.8 seconds.
"Oh? Well, you know, Kaylen, you should really be ready to look around for an apartment, you know? If you aren't ready, then you shouldn't be looking. It takes me an HOUR to go back and forth each time I come here, and because you are not buying it, it is all just a waste of time. Just make sure you're ready next time, okay?" Nicole said. And then she swiftly hung up.

HELLO?!?!?!?!?!?! THAT'S YOUR JOB, YOU BUTTFACE.

Sorry. My neck is red hot, I am so upset right now. I really hate it when people get angry at me for no reason. I'm a nice person, darn it, and I made sure that this Miss NICOLE was aware of the fact that we may not be able to get this space.

Ergh. I need to look at something pretty to make myself feel better. I've been doing work all morning.

ANYWAYS. I don't normally create posts like this, so...sorry.

"I liked it but Sarah didn't"

That pretty much sums it up, right? I mean, if Sarah didn't like it, and she would be paying for half of it, then it's not going to work out. That's why one visits apartments before one signs leases.

Two other thoughts...first, it's lucky you didn't get it. Imagine the morning the water heater breaks: "Well, you know, Kaylen, it takes me an HOUR to go back and forth and it's just a waste of time, it'll wait until the weekend."

Second, I'd be happy to sign up to see the apartment. And waste her time some more. :^)

EXACTLY! I wish I could write a letter to this woman, but I don't know her address. I also was sooo close to calling her back and saying, "wow, that was really unprofessional" but I decided against it, mostly because I'm not very good with comebacks - until about five hours after it happens.

ugh, I can't stand when people act like that.
it gives me this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach...I just can't comprehend why people are so quick to anger/being mean!
hope your day gets better, love!

I TOTALLY have gone through this before...when renting, sometimes you meet the most wonderful landlords, who will do just about anything for you or their building (and it shows), and then there are the awful people who tend to buy properties very far from their homes (I had a similar situation a few years back), or who work very stressful day jobs and when it comes down to it, they just want $$$$ and not any of the responsibility that comes with being a landlord.

As a renter, you have EVERY right to look at as many properties as you wish (or even at one more than once) before you decide. And, this woman obviously doesn't realize that, in a part of town with many universities, she is going to be dealing with people that may not have lived off-campus/away from home before, and needs to be patient.

Wow, I didn't mean for that to be so long, but I have been renting for a few years now, and have seen just about everything.

I hope you found something pretty to look at. :)
