Wedding Dress...again

I'm sorry. This is about a wedding-related thing.

So. I've been making lots of calls to places all over St. Louis, Chicago, AND Kansas City. And there are, like, NO short dresses. It's driving me crazy.

So I had this scathingly brilliant idea the other night. There's this great place by my apartment called The Future Antique. It's basically a wonderland - all kinds of great stuff from the 1950s, 1960s, etc. I like looking at all the clothes there.

Last time I was there, I noticed an entire shelf of vintage patterns for pants, shirts, dresses, skirts...all different types of clothing.

So I think my next step is going to be to find a dress pattern, buy a ton of fabric, and try to find someone who wants to make me the dress! I would do it myself but I have no clue how to use a sewing machine.

Here are some patterns I've found online and love, so far:

Love the short dress on the right - without those weird, puffy sleeves.

Bateau neckline? Yes please!

I like this one both with and without the sleeves.

I think this one is my favorite.

So, if anyone knows of a dressmaker/seamstress that wants to make a dress out of a pattern...I would love to hear from you :)

oh *sigh*
the 2nd and last are my favorites

i think having it made is the best idea... then it will be just "you"

I love them all, too. And making the dress is a perfect idea. You pick the style. You pick the material. It's YOUR dress!

Let me know if you don't find anybody. I made Nan's and re-made Mom's for Peggy. You will probably want a professional for something this special, though.

kaylen! you might try a meetup.com group or craigslist to find a local sewer! (is sewer a word besides meaning underground drainage system?) just a thought!

Try lillianbydesign@aol.com. Her name is Lillian Bates and she was a textiles classmate of mine. Her shop in in Alton, and her rates are reasonable.

Wedding dress shopping is so disheartening, I went through it with my friend last summer. Mostly I'm concerned that people would spend that amount of money on some of those monstrosities.

If you don't have any luck finding someone in St. Louis, I have a girl in mind who might be able to help you. She graduated from the design program at my school last year and her focus is in wedding dress design. I have no idea what she is up to now or what her prices are like, but if you want to get in contact with her just let me know.

Here are some of her dresses:

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Great idea to have it made. Some of the other girls had awesome suggestions! I have one more: you can post this on Etsy and people who own Etsy shops will make you offers. I think it's called Alchemy? Or if you search for dresses on there, you could convo the seller to see if they'd do custom work for your budget. Good luck, you've got some great inspiration!!!

The last one is so cute.

Maybe you could look at wedding blogs and scope out where other brides got their short dresses.

i love dress #1 from the first pattern. I think i may have to go the same way as you when i get married. I want a short dress and im small so the odd of finding the "right" one is super slim. Good luck with your hunt! x

Long wedding dress is better as wedding dress. I think you will find your desired dress that design is more perfect and standard than ordinary wedding dresses from the store boutiqueken in affordable price.
