My friend Katherine had a subscription to ReadyMade before I did. She and my other friend, Lara, shared a subscription (is it me, or did it really use to cost $24.95 a year???). I looked at them after they both did (I was much too cheap for a subscription myself).
One thing that caught my eye, and Katherine's, too, was the slide lamp. When we found out at the end of our junior year in high school that one of the teachers as going to throw away all the old school slides, we dove in and took almost all of them. Katherine, because she is resourceful and commits to things, made a slide lamp for each of her close friends as a graduation gift. I, on the other hand, JUST finished mine...tonight. (Almost) four years later.
But check it out! I'm pretty proud of it. While the tutorial originally found in Issue 12 (I think?) of Readymade called for using rings to join the slides together, I hand-stitched them together and then sewed them to the lamp frame. It was time-consuming but...I think it paid off :D
Demonstrating the effect it will have, once it is stitched together and on a lamp frame...
Wheee! All done!
Some pretty slides...
Next to my train case (aka my sewing box).
